About Community Living Skills

Community Living Skills is a peer-led Independent Living skills workshop provided by organizations that serve people with disabilities. The Research and Training Center on Disability in Rural Communities (RTC:Rural) at The Rural Institute provides training and certification for Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and other organizations to conduct a workshop. The program is intended to be delivered in a group setting, using a large screen or television, over the course of ten 90-minute sessions.

This session can help participants understand disability and some of the shared experiences they may have. It will help participants reflect on their unique and personal identity story. Identifying as a person with a disability doesn’t have to be negative; it can be a step towards taking back your power to make choices and lead your own life.
