Maintaining a Healthy Balance
“Balance is a feeling derived from being whole and complete; it’s a sense of harmony. It is essential to maintaining quality in life and work.”
– Joshua Oseng
Introduction
- Life’s demands can make maintaining balance difficult
- When life becomes unbalanced, health problems are more likely to affect daily activities, including work
The Pleasure Principle
- We began this workshop by introducing the idea that working well includes working toward your values
- Your values are the basis for your motivation
- For example, if you value your intellectual area, you may be motivated to learn new skills and information
My Demands
- Americans often think of demands as negative things that require our time and attention when we would rather be doing something else
- Demands are a real and often unavoidable part of life
Managing Stress
- Sometimes, we have little control over stressors and must resort to using stress-management techniques
- The stress-management session focused on that
- Nothing knocks life out of balance like a major stressor, such as financial or relationship problems
Planning a Healthy Lifestyle
- So, what are your plans for creating a healthier lifestyle?
- How do your values direct your plans?
- Can you manage the Pleasure Principle and strengthen your willpower?
- The answer is YES! Just be smart about what you ask of yourself.
